If you want to see some amazing truck art then Pakistan is the place to go because there I saw some amazingly decorated trucks. It is an art form, that includes carving trucks. Majority of the time the back panels of the trucks narrates the story of the owner or their heroes. Bright colors, calligraphy of poetic verses, and colorful ornaments are used to add an element of beauty. These trucks are literally art on wheels and at times when there is more traffic on roads it looks nothing short of a moving exhibition. The external decorations on the trucks are also detailed. Usually mirror work is used to adorn the interiors of the truck and jingle art and structural elements are used on the body. Most of the cities in Pakistan have their own decors pertaining to the history of that area.

To reach the border of China, I had to travel from Islamabad via the Karakoram Highway. I saw these decorated cargo trucks in abundance on the highway. Once I got a chance of stopping at a shop that specialized in decorating and designing these trucks. While talking to the designer, I realized how passionate and proud Pakistanis are of their creativity on wheels.

I visited Pakistan with my husband in 2007. It proved to be an exciting tour that gave us a lot of unique insight into the lives of local Pakistanis.
